The Bering Land Bridge • All the continents used to be joined together as one supercontinent known as “Pangaea.” • 1/3 of the earth was covered by ice. • Virginia even had walruses! • The glaciers had so much water, the ocean level dropped. How the Incas lived • They were farmers who farmed potatoes. • Their houses were made of Adobe brick or stone and didn’t have any windows or chimney. • There was a stove made out of stone and mud for cooking and warmth. • Used a stone club called a taclla to plow. • Created terraces in the mountains. Inca Religion • The Emperor was called “The Inca or Sapa Inca.” He was a descendant of the Sun god and so had divine authority. • The Inca usually married his sister for his 1st wife. • The Inca emperor wore a fringe on their headdress. • The Incas had special objects called huacas that they worshipped that was in their houses. • They worshiped a sun god, Inti. • The dead were honored.   13. The Aztecs(100-1440 AD)

  14. Aztec location • They lived in Mexico on Lake Texcoco. • The capital was Tenochtitlan in 1325 B.C. which is the capital of Mexico today, Mexico City. • The Aztecs settled in Mexico because they saw an eagle with a snake in its beak on top of a cactus according to legend. Aztec Religion • They worshipped a sun god, Huitzilopochtli and the god of wind and learning, Quetzalcoatl. • Human sacrifices of prisoners or children were offered to please their gods for they believed that blood gave life to their gods so their gods would give them rain and a good life. • In 1847, the Aztecs killed their 80,000 prisoners of war and offered them all at once to their gods. How the Aztec lived • The Aztecs created floating gardens called “chinampas” because the gardens were islands on a swamp. • The grew corn as their main crop which they pounded or grinded into tortillas. • Other foods included tomatoes, turkeys, squash, vegetables, flowers, and they even made chocolate. How the Mayans lived? • The Mayans lived in thatched houses. • They planted corn in terraces using a pointed stick. • Mayans used burn a forest and use the ashes for fertilizer. • Other foods included squash, beans, pineapples and fish. • They drank a chocolate drink with hot chilies.
