  2. childhood • Born august 18 1774 • In Abemarle county Virginia which is present day Ivy • Son of Lt. William Lewis and Lucy Meriwether

  3. Young life • 1795 at 21 years old he joined the army • Where he served until 1801 • On april 1 1801 he was apointed as an aide to Jefferson

  4. exploration • Jefferson selected Lewis to lead the expedition • He got extra training and in 1803 he was told what his mission was to explore the new land all the way to the pacific • He asked for a companion which ended up being clark • They found a lot of new items on their adventures

  5. Exploration Cont. • Such as hundreds of plants and new species • On august 11 1806 he was shot by his blind buddy named pierrecruz • Hampered the rest of the mission back to stlouis • He was rewarded 1600 acres for doing this and apointed governor of louisiana

  6. DEATH • He died on october 10 1809 • He was shot • He was found in a pool of his own blood
