Culture • Books that were popular in the 1960’s and reflected social issues of the time were To Kill a Mockingbird, Catch-22, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. • Musicals that became movies were The Sound of Music, and My Fair Lady. Actress Audrey Hepburn was popular with young girls. • Disney movies that came out were 101 Dalmations and Pinocchio. • Television cartoons that were watched were the Flintstones, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and the Jetsons.

Fashion & Fads • In the early 60’s women styled their hair like Jackie Kennedy in a bouffant, and wore knee length dresses. • Men had crew cuts and wore button down plaid shirts. • By the mid 60’s miniskirts, and go-go boots were popular with women. • Men’s wear became bright colors, sports jackets and turtlenecks.

Kennedy had the first presidential debate on tv. • The popular dances were the Twist, the Jerk, the Swim, the Mashed Potato and the Monkey.
