A paraphrase is when a reader successfully takes someone else’s ideas, and puts them into their own words • Example: • Original Text: In order to be successful I LA3, one must take quality notes. • Paraphrase: If someone wants to get a good grade in LA3, they should make sure that they have good notes will all relevant information. Paraphrase

  6. A quote is a verbatim is a word for word copy of someone else’s words • Put quotation marks around them • Do not change anything Quote

A summary is when a reader puts the central idea of a work into their own words • It is often quite a bit shorter than a paraphrase because it does not go line by line • Example: Finding Nemo • Summary: A young clownfish defies his father and ends up being fish-napped. His father then goes on a journey with his flighty companion to rescue his son. Both characters undergo a change. Summary
