  3. What is Health-Related Fitness? • The ability of the body to meet the demands of daily physical effort and activity, to have enough energy reserve for unexpected emergencies and to enjoy the feeling of well being that regular exercise brings.

  4. Body Composition • The relative percentage of muscle fat bone and other tissues that comprise the body. • How to find body comp.: • Body Mass Index (BMI)- kg/m2 • Body Fat Percentage • Hydrostatic Weighing

  5. Cardiovascular Fitness • The ability of the heart,blood vessels, blood and respiratory system to supply oxygen and fuel to the muscles at a steady rate for a considerable length of time. • Cardio Exercises: • Running, biking, swimming….

  6. Finding Target Heart Rate • 220-age= Max HR 60-80% of Max HR= Target Zone Should exercise AT LEAST 3 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes a day.

  7. Muscular Strength • The ability of the muscles to exert maximum force. • Importance: • Increase in lean muscle mass • Increase in caloric expenditure during rest and activity • Examples: • 1 RM workouts, lifting furniture

  8. Muscular Endurance • The ability of the muscles to repeatedly exert themselves over a period of time. • Important: • To sustain everyday task, so the older you get the easier the everyday tasks will be. • Examples: • Curl ups, Push ups, etc.

  9. Flexibility • The ability to move the body joints and muscles through the full range of motion (ROM) without discomfort or pain. • Importance: • To keep the muscles and joints pliable which will lessen the chance of injury • Examples: • Static, Dynamic, PNF

  10. Benefits of Physical Activity • Having more energy and stamina • Improve flexibility, strength, and endurance • Reducing the risk of future diseases • Better nights sleep • Reducing stress • Being able to concentrate better • Manage weight • Improve self-esteem
