  3. What is Go-Wireless project? • Started by few wireless fans in Queens College June of 2002 • Wireless node information management tool • Accessible over the web and phone • Audience • Wireless users • Wireless node owners • Wireless community group administrators

Philosophy behind Go-Wireless • Environment for one to create/join a community wireless network/group • “Access control” feature for a group owner to accept/reject membership application • Wireless node information is owned and controlled by individual node owner • Management tool to help node owners to maintain up-to-date wireless node information

Wireless users • Node location • Search over the web or phone • Search by zip code • Search by state and city name (or street name) • Search by longitude and latitude radius • Access information • Text, graphical map, XML, or voice output • Encryption key information • Compatible devices • Publish information about the access devices • MAC address for node owner to authorize access

Wireless node owner • Associate/expose wireless node(s) to one or more community groups • With or without contact information • Publish node location • With or without contact information • Publish authentication and access information • Encryption key information • Compatible devices • Manage MAC address based authentication • Download and import authorized MAC addresses authentication

Wireless community group owner/coordinator • Management tool for membership application and maintaining membership information • Ability to set up private group, but for public • Utility to monitor membership (application) status • Utility for individuals to apply for membership • Automatic and instant email utility for coordinator to contact an individual about a decision on membership application.
