  2. Carers Week 9th - 15th June 2014 Are you a Carer? A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support (Carers Trust 2013) Have you told the Surgery you are a Carer? Did you know you can ask for your own needs to be assessed? Carers, Cared For, Family, Friends and Professionals all welcomeFacts about CarersOne in ten people in England & Wales are Carers.That is a total of 5.8 million carers. This has grown by 600,000 since 2001.Authorities with higher percentages of their population who are ‘limited a lot’ in daily activities also have higher levels of unpaid care provided. (Census Data 2011)The economic value of the contribution made by carers in the UK is a remarkable £119 billion per year.This is equivalent to- - £2.3 billion per week - £326 million per day - £13.6 million per hour - £18,473 for every carer in the UK.NHS spending in 2012/13= £105.254bn (Valuing Carers 2011)

  4. Look after yourself this Summer Below are some links to websites offering advice of how to look after yourself and your family/friends during the summer months. Some of the information applies all year round. There is more information on the notice boards at Wilson Street and Taddington Road on this subject. Some Pharmacies/Chemists have staff who can advise you on different aspects of your health and websites such as www.boots.com and www.Lloydspharmacy.com have useful advice regarding looking after yourself in the summer months (as well as general advice for all year health) Please also ensure you have the relevant vaccinations you may require for travel abroad and any tablets or health precautions you may need to take. Your GP or Practice Nurse can advise you accordingly. The PPG on behalf of the patients would like to wish him a long and happy retirement. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank him for his valuable contribution to the practice and dedication to his patients. New Partner In addition, the PPG on behalf of the patients would like to welcome Dr Drew Smith to the practice. We hope he will have many happy and successful years here at the surgery.

  6. Missed Appointments Please ensure that unwanted appointments are always cancelled. This can be done by telephoning the surgery or using the surgery website. If you would like a text message reminder, please make sure that the surgery has your up to date mobile phone number and that you have given them permission to contact you in this way. Parking Please remove your car from the car park once your appointment is over. Please do not leave your car in the surgery car park whilst you go into the city centre. Please park courteously and within the designated bays.
