  1. Lesson # 15 Metric Conversions (Linear)

  2. The best way to convert Metric measurements… Is To Understand Them !

  3. For Example… To convert 2 kilometers to millimeters… It would help if … You understood how big each unit is!

  4. A kilometer… Is a bit of a long walk, As a matter of a fact, It is 1000 steps, If each step is 1 meter long!

  5. On the other hand… A millimeter is quite small, About as long as A pencil’s lead is thick. There are 10 of them in one centimeter, And 1000 of them in One meter!

  6. Speaking of “centimeters”… They are about as long as… Your fingernail is …wide. And There are 100 of them in a meter !

  7. So to convert metric measurements… Think about the units… If you go from Bigger to Smaller… you will have to multiply!

  8. But if you convert from Smaller to Bigger… You will have to Divide.

  9. Lets look at some examples… Convert 23.4 cm to millimeters.

  10. 23.4 cm = ? mm 23.4 X ? = ? mm

  11. Times by 10 (because there are 10 mm in 1 cm) Therefore 23.4 X 10 = 234 mm

  12. Another example… Convert 0.25 m to kms. Difficult ? Watch…

  13. 0.25 m = ? km 0.25 ÷ ? = ? Km ÷ by 1000 right (Because there are 1000 m in 1 km)

  14. Soooooo… 0.25 must be divided by 1000 Which means… 0.25 m = 0.0025 km! Yahoo.

  15. Going from Smaller to Bigger… Divide ! ÷

  16. Got it ? Going from Bigger to Smaller Multiply!

  17. And now… Ten questions For Your viewing Pleasure !
