  3. Programme • Has been developed with the aim of providing quality courses to potential young leaders. • Approved by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Kent Cricket Board and will be administered by the District Development Group. • Is the only known programme of its type in the country.

  4. Objectives • To give opportunity for Young People between the age of 14 and 16 to acquire skills and competency in leadership that will allow them to volunteer within the community of their cricket club and/or school. • To retain young people between u14-u15 (Year 9 &10) in cricket as a sport by investing quality time and resources into a specialised programme.

  5. Benefit to Young Person • Cricket leadership skills. • Improve understanding of the positive impact coaching can have. • Qualifications and life skills. • Role model to younger members of the school. • Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme. • National Curriculum level as part of PE GCSE. • University Personal Statement and/or CV. • Community Sports Leadership and Sports Leaders UK award in Junior Sports Leadership.

  6. Modules • ECB Young Leaders in cricket . 2 x 3 hours course • ECB Scoring and umpiring. 2 x 2 hours course • I of G Groundmanship. 3 hour course • First Aid. 3 hour course • Courses to run from February through to May 2014

ECB Young Leaders Award - Content • Module 1 • What to coach skills • Coaching activities/games • Pass and move • Relay catching • Basic batting and bowling • How to coach skills • Provide instructions and explanations • Provide demonstration • Organize • Warm-up and cool-down • Establish and maintain a fun and safe environment

  10. Institute of Groundmanship course Understand the tools and machinery used for effective maintenance of sports pitches Maintenance and inspections Safety Use How to read a pitch SETTING OUT AND MARKING OUT Pitches and squares - practical

First Aid Awareness • Assessing an incident – arrival at the scene, dealing with casualties, contacting the emergency services, prioritise first aid treatment and recording accidents/incidents. • Wounds and bleeding – Treatment of minor injuries, recognise and treat for signs of shock. • Recognition and treatment of – A casualty that is unconscious and breathing normally. A casualty that is unconscious and not breathing normally.

  12. Examples of volunteering – 20 hours required • Umpiring • Scoring • Coaching • Warm up • Managing • Kit management • Pitch preparation • Results management • Fund raising

New for 2014 • We will be encouraging all leaders to embark on a fund raising project for this year. • You can work in a team, for your club or on your own to achieve your target. • Projected target to be agreed. • Funds raised will be ploughed back into the programme to ensure future generations benefit from the programme. • Excellent achievement to have on your CV. • An insight into how your club raises money to sustain cricket.

  14. Award/Reward for Young Person as a volunteer • ECB Certificate of attendance. • ECB “Get involved” certificate. • vCricket rewards – ECB vCricket polo shirt • I o G certificate • ACO certificate. • First Aid certificate of attendance. • Fund raising certificate

ECB Young Leaders Award Qualifications • Can be used as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme http://www.dofe.org/go/Bronze/http://www.dofe.org/go/Silver/http://www.dofe.org/go/Gold/ • Contributes to Community Sports Leadership and Sports Leaders UK award in Junior Sports Leadership. • Recognized at National Curriculum level and contributes to required modules of PE GCSE. • Can be referenced to as part of University Personal Statement and CV. • Employers are 75% more likely to employ an individual that has participated in community volunteering than not.

Pathway to level 1 in coaching or officiating • Skills and competency to volunteer – confidence. • Qualifications recognized at National Level. • By volunteering at your club and/or your school, you will give more children the chance to play matches and receive quality coaching. • To give something back to the wider community. • An achievement that can make a real difference on your Personal Statement for University or C.V. • Invite from the ECB to attend an award ceremony at Lords Cricket Ground

  17. The Pledge OECC/Chislehurst and West Kent CC will: In conjunction with the BDDG Group, arrange for each Young Leader to undertake the ECB Young Leaders’ Award, First Aid, Scorers and Umpires and Institute of grounds man courses, as appropriate. Ensure all Young Leaders co-manage matches with a responsible CRB checked adult. The Young Leader will: Attend each course, notifying the course provider of any delay or absence within good time. Volunteer at each level for at least twenty hours within the same season. As a Young Leader, continue to be a role model to younger cricketers and an ambassador for the school in the wider community. Record all volunteering activity where appropriate and return to club co-ordinator in timely fashion Parents will: Ensure their son/daughter attends each course, notifying the course provider of any delay or absence within good time. Role of Club Co-ordinator at OECC and Chislehurst & West Kent • Select/Identify young people to be invited • Issue letter of invitation • Obtain pledges • Inform steering group of those signed up and liaise for course dates • Inform YL’s of course dates they are booked on • Allocate volunteering sessions within club • Sign off volunteering recorded hours

  19. Next steps – Parents and Young Leaders • Decide on joining the programme • Sign and return the pledge document to Andy (OECC) Dave (Chis & WK) • Complete registration form (online)
