  2. Mein Kampf Structure • Autobiographical sections (1889-1923/4) • Reflections & comments on past & current political circumstances in Germany = Crude, turgid, disorganised structure = Mixture of autobiography, philosophy & history book: Blueprint of Hitler’s program

  3. Hitler’s Zweites Buch (Second Book) • Not finished & published during Hitler’s lifetime • Discovered in 1958 • Published in 1961: Hitler’s Secret Book (unreliable translation) • New version in 2003: Hitler’s Second Book by US historian G.L. Weinberg ► Shorter & more lucid statement of Hitler’s views on foreign policy principles & problems ► Very concerned with the South Tyrolean question

  4. HIST3025: Methodology • Thematically analysing important topics in Hitler’s two books • Critically evaluating selected excerpts from Hitler’s two books = Comprehensive understanding of Hitler’s National Socialist ideology, trained during lectures & seminars

  5. HIST3025: Structure Learning activities: • Lecture (once weekly) • Seminar (weekly after 5 Feb 2013) • Research Seminar (twice towards end of teaching term) Final grade (100%): = 30% from Seminar contributions = 30% from Seminar assignment = 40% from Research Paper
