  13. Network Restructuring – Integration of Rail and Bus 14 • Concept based on integration of rail and bus • Rail acts as backbone, bus to feed and supplement • Highly efficient network approach rather than line approach • Local pickup shuttles pick up passengers and feed into rail or bus trunk lines • Trunk lines move passengers into city hubs • City shuttles and rail feed passengers to final destinations • Basic strategy: provide downtown with completely overwhelming service and then get driver to leave car behind in successive stages, first at Hubs then at trunk-line, then at home.

  16. Inter-Modal Systems in the Klang Valley 17 • RAPID KL consists of • Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT Line • Kelana Jaya LRT Line • Stage and Feeder Bus Bus map here • Other Public Transport Rail Operators • KTMB • Monorail • ERL

  17. Inter-Modal Common Ticketing 18 Current Ticketing System for Rail and Bus Operators: • Magnetic Tickets are not in inter-operable format to all Rail and Bus Operators • Paper based ticket is not an automated ticket media • “Touch n Go” Stored Value Card is the only common ticket that is able to be used to all Rail and Bus Operators Ticketing System by ‘overlay’ technique

  18. Inter-Modal Common Ticketing 19 RAIL OPERATORS COMMIT TO TOUCH ‘n GO AT ALL STATIONS

  19. Inter-Modal Common Ticketing 20 • Stored Value ‘Touch n Go’ implementation • RAPID KL Kelana Jaya LRT Line (1998) • RAPID KL Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT Lines (2004) • KTMB (2005) • Monorail (2005) • ERL (2005) • RAPID KL Stage Buses (2006)

  20. Future Expansion and Challenges – LRT System 21 • Fleet Expansion Project • Tender invitation stage for additional 88 vehicles for the Kelana Jaya Line LRT – expected delivery within 3 years. • Areas Under Consideration for LRT New Alignments: • Kelana Jaya Line • Kelana Jaya to Subang Jaya/USJ (First Priority) • University/Asia Jaya to One Utama Shopping Centre – Kota Damansara • Ampang & Sri Petaling Line • Sri Petaling to Sunway • Tasik Selatan to Bandar Tun Hussein Onn • Sentul Timur to Kepong/Bandar Baru Selayang

  21. Future Expansion and Challenges – Bus System 22 • Bus network to extend to new townships • Bus network to expand to feed extensions to LRT systems • Bus service frequency to increase to basic 15 minutes on all routes outside the city centre • Bus fleet increased by 200 new buses in 2005 • Bus fleet planned to increase by 600 new buses in 2006 • By 2008 bus fleet will be 2,500 buses • We have strong support from Government for the provision of the new buses

  22. Key Performance Indicators 23 • Our Mission is to provide integrated public transportation in the Klang Valley. • The Government has generated KPIs for RAPID, also as basis for granting us an Operating Agreement, to evaluate how well we do that. • We will be judged by independent outside measurement of performance • We will be transparent to the public as well and invite direct dialogue with all parties concerned.
