  6. Why people play Poker machines It’s important to remember that people play poker machines for different reasons. So why do people play? • To enjoy gaming: • For business-related trips: • To vacation: • To win: • For excitement: • To relax: • For attention or personal recognition: • For social interaction: • For challenges and risk-taking: • For incentives:

  7. Problem Gambling For most people, gaming is a form of entertainment. However, for some people it can become more than entertainment and they may wish to distance themselves from poker machines. It is very important that if someone approaches you and says they have a problem with gaming, you need to take them out of the gaming room and get the Senior Gaming or a member of the Gaming Department immediately. As you will have learnt in your Responsible Conduct of Gaming course, you should not approach people whom you think have a problem with gaming. Legally, you need to wait until they approach you.

  8. Our Players Ages • Our gaming patrons varying in ages but as you will see from this graph, the vast majority are over the age of 40. • What does this mean for you? • Be friendly, not familiar • Be polite and respectful • Just say yes – then find a way • Think, ‘How would my father/grandmother wish to be treated?’ • Grooming is important and conservative is better • Great customer service = competitive advantage

  9. What to watch for in the Gaming Room • Tradies is a place for everyone to enjoy and we pride ourselves on providing a safe and comfortable environment for all our patrons. We have a diverse range of people in our Gaming Rooms and we monitor behaviour closely. If you see any of the following behaviour, notify your supervisor immediately: • Swearing, foul language • Groups standing around not playing a machine • People asking other patrons for money • People inappropriately dressed (singlets, hats etc)

  10. Don’t know anything about poker machines? We’ll teach you everything you need to know in your training! If you ever have a question, please don’t hesitate to ask your Senior Gaming on shift or have a chat to the Gaming Department.
