Food security exists when all people, at all times, have access to sufficient quantity of safe, nutritious, affordable, and culturally appropriate food. • Reasons for the current food security crisis: • speculation in commodity market • declining yields due in part to climate change • use of food crops for biofuels • increased cost of energy for food production • increased cost of fertilizers • increased population • more meat being consumed
