  1. Procedures How are things going to run in our classroom?

  2. Coming to Class • Say hello! • Be in your seat BY THE BELL. You are TARDY if you are not in your seat when the bell rings. • Complete the Starter (This will be explained next) • Read or work on another assignment SILENTLY

  3. Starter • Self-Starter • Each day when you enter class, there will be some kind of activity on the board. • Write the question/prompt in the question/prompt box, and the answer in the answer box • Please write in COMPLETE SENTENCES unless otherwise told. • This means your sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation point. • You have 2 minutes after bell to complete & then we will discuss it as a class. • Self Starters are due every other Thursday/Friday • Use your file folder to keep starters safe if you tend to lose things!

  4. Starter Make Ups • What if I am absent one day and miss the starter? • You must go to the class website and check it for the starter question. • The starter question will always be the first thing under each day. • Class website: www.misswinnsclass.weebly.com

  5. Homework • Expect homework • You won’t have it in this class every night, but you WILL have it • If you are absent, check out what the homework is on the class website: www.misswinnsclass.weebly.com

  6. Absent and Missing Work • Check Website and/or Calendar • www.misswinnsclass.weebly.com MEMORIZE THIS! • Download and print off assignments, or get the work from the assignment crate when you get back. • Ask a friend if you have questions. • Ask Ms. Winn IFyour friend can’t help you. • Staple an “Absent” or “Late” slip on assignment and turn into basket • IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT A SLIP • Class still goes on when you’re gone – get your work when you’re gone! • Visit the class website to download extra copies of assignments

  7. Assignments • Heading • In the Upper Right-hand corner of the paper write • Name • Date • Period • Example: • Bobby Smith • Sept. 5, 2011 • Per. 6 • PLEASE DO NOT FORGET YOUR NAME

  8. Write the correct title. Ask Ms. Winn if you are unsure. Correct Heading: Name Date Period Bobby SmithSeptember 5, 2011 Period 6 Five Themes of Geography

  9. Assignments • Late Work • Late work will be turned in to the basket for your period • Some assignments will NOT be accepted late (but I will tell you before) • Last day for late work is one week before the end of the quarter • Late work will receive a 30% grade deduction. • Example: You earned a 90% on your assignment, but you turned it in late. Your grade will be a 60% on the assignment. That’s a D-!

  10. Distributing Work • Handing IN assignments • Hand assignments to the front of the row • Stack the papers face up, all facing the same direction • If it’s not in when I collect it, IT IS LATE

  11. Distributing Work • New Assignments • I will hand out enough for each row to the person at the front of the row. • It is the responsibility of that person to hand the papers back quickly and efficiently

  12. Note Packets • Many assignments will be included in a note packet • There will be a running list on the back board • Note packets are collected at the end of each unit/topic • YOU are responsible for holding on to work that is to be included in the note packet until you turn it in with your packet • Use your file folder to keep notes safe

  13. Cheating • Things that are considered cheating: • Telling someone in another class what is on a quiz or test. That includes giving any kind of hint. • Allowing someone to copy from your assignment, quiz or test. That includes homework. • Using any kind of cheat-sheet. That includes writing things on your hands. • Copying information from other sources like the internet. It is called plagiarism, and it is cheating. Always cite your sources and never copy word for word unless you put it in quotes and cite it. Immediately.

  14. To Be Continued…

  15. Procedures How are things going to run in our classroom?

  16. Tests & Quizzes • Quizzes are random, but rarely unannounced • Tests at the end of each unit • Tests are comprehensive, so use quizzes to help you study for the tests • Keep your quizzes and tests

  17. Assignments • TQW (Total Quality Work) • “Excellence is determined by the sloppiest piece of work you will accept.” What would receive a TQW? • Sloppy Work – handwriting, coloring, drawing, work in general • IDK: Not acceptable! • I WILL hand it back if not Total Quality Work

  18. Assignments • What does that mean? • Check Mark – It means you got a 100% • 19/20 – What? • That means you got 19 points out of 20 on the assignment. • How do I know what my percentage was? • Divide the top number by the bottom number • 19 divided by 20 = 95%

  19. What Do I Need For Class? • Pen or Pencil – Pencils must be sharpened BEFORE class begins. Bring 5 pencils to school every day. (Trust me on this one!) • Lined Paper (which should already be in your binder) • Colored Pencils • Binder or folder for this class • Planner • Book for reading – BRING EVERYDAY • Any assignments that are due – DON’T LEAVE THEM IN YOUR LOCKER!

  20. When Can I Talk? • My Time – No Talking • lesson instruction, giving directions, and times when I’m addressing the class as a whole group. DO NOT SHARPEN PENCILS. • Your Time – • group work, class activities, and if you are good, during some class assignments. You may sharpen pencils.

  21. Speaking In Class • Raise your hand to speak • It is rude to speak out of turn. We are not rude people, so we will not speak out of turn • Groups or Partner Work • You may talk when working with a partner or in a group. • Noise level most remain acceptable

  22. How Loud Can I Talk? • Acceptable Volume Level • You should be able to still hear me when I speak at a normal volume level. • However, if the volume exceeds that, it is not okay. • Exceeding Volume Level: I will give you two warnings. After I have given you two warnings, there will be no talking for the remainder of the class and you will work individually.

  23. How Loud Can I Talk? • Signals to get your attention • I will count down – 3, 2, 1 • It is your responsibility to be quiet and eyes are on me by the time I get to one

  24. Getting Out of Your Seat Ask to get out of your seat • This goes for all reasons why you may want to get out of your seat – • Asking a friend a question • Throwing something away…

  25. Leaving Class I excuse you, NOT the bell. • Work until I excuse you – have your books and materials out and keep working • Before I excuse you the following must occur: • The class must be quiet • Each student has pushed in his/her chair • The floor is picked-up (no paper, wrappers, colored pencils, etc.) • Desks are straightened and the classroom looks clean and orderly

  26. Bathroom, Drinks & Hall Passes • Get a drink before you come to class, you will NOT be allowed to leave class to get a drink • Only in extreme cases where there is an emergency may you go to the bathroom WITH your planner. You must have YOUR planner to go to the bathroom. (Not your friend’s planner!) • Basically, don’t ask to leave the class – We want you here!

  27. Checking Out Textbooks • ALWAYS GET PERMISSION BEFORE CHECKING OUT A BOOK • I will check you out a textbook using the computer • You MUST return the book to me so I can clear your account, otherwise it will still be on your record!

  28. Discipline If you choose to break classroom or school rules, you may receive the following consequences: • Verbal warnings • Remain after class to talk to Ms. Winn • Lose your break between classes • Sent to the POD area • Sent to another classroom • Come in for your lunch break • Call home • Go to the assistant principals

  29. You can have a great year at Sunset Ridge. The choice is yours!
