The Uncertainty of the Higher Education Landscape Reductions in Need Based Aid – Federal Pell Grants Affordability #1 Choice Factor for Past 2 Years Increased Competition State Budget Cuts & Changes Will Put More Pressure on Needy Students Texas College Board Scores Declined 35 points in Past 5 Years Federal Degree Attainment Goal – 60% by 2020 – US ranked 16th Texas Closing the Gap Initiative – TWU’s Growth potential is 15,998 by 2015. (.89% or 14,217) Current 2015 Target – will be revised soon Barriers to Enrollment Success

  3. “The Magnetic Attraction of North Texas” • North Texas – 12 counties – 6.5 million people • 4th Largest metro population • 6th Fastest growing region in the country • Fall 2011 - 10,114 TWU students were from this region • North Texas attracts 1 million new people every 8 years. • From 2004 to 2008 – Texas added more people in net migration than any other state • 8 of top 15 fastest growing cities are in Texas • North Texas Commission Magazine Report

  4. Texas is 45th out of 50 states in educational attainment 70% are enrolled in community colleges (50 districts) 90% are Texas students in higher education are undergraduates The best community college transfer rate in North Texas is 38.9%

Breakdown of 2012 New Students Freshman to date 2012 – 1,162 (14% increase) 2011 – 1,019 (Actual 1,043) Transfers to date 2012 – 1,434 (8% increase) 2011 – 1,325 ( Actual 1,376) Graduates to Date 2012 – 1,287 - 18% increase to date 2011 – 1,093 ( Actual 1,396) Total Preregistered to date 2012 - 14,718 (2% increase to date) 2011 – 14,417 ( Actual 14,717)

Evidence of A Strong Fall Enrollment • Honors Program • 71 students – 30% increase in last two years • Virtually all ranked in top 10% • Average SAT 1309 • Orientation • Freshman Class Orientation Numbers are up by 10% • New Transfer Orientation Numbers are Up By 35% • Graduate Orientation is August 21 • Housing Requests • Housing Applications are up by 259 students above last year’s opening date
