  2. Location • Rhodes, Greece • The colossus was built between 303 and 291 B.C. • All that is left are some stone blocks used as the base.

  3. Purpose • Built by the sculptor Charas of Lindos • Built to commemorate their victory in a siege against Macedonians • Worked like a Lighthouse so ships could se the port of Rhodes from far away

  4. Uniqueness • The structure was to honor the Sun God Helios • It took 12 years to complete the structure • It was built with terra cotta molds

  5. Ancient Foresight • The statue of Liberty is very similar to what the Colossus of Rhodes what have looked like • This structure is apart of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
