Targets of the Holocaust • Jewish people were the people who were targeted the most • Approximately 6 million Jewish people died due to the fact they were Jewish • Jewish people were eventually stripped of their German citizenship • They were restricted from things such as cinemas, theatres, swimming pools, and resorts

Targets of the Holocaust • Another group of people that were targeted were the Gypsies • The Nuremburg Laws did not affect them but they were still deprived of certain civil rights • First they were crammed into the ghettos and then they were sent to concentration and extermination camps • Hundreds of thousands of Gypsies were killed during the Holocaust

Targets of the Holocaust • Mentally and Physically disabled people were also victims of the Holocaust • In 1939 a Nazi euthanasia program began • This term is used as a euphemism for the Nazi plan to murder those with physical or mental defects • At least a 250,000 mentally and physically disabled people were killed throughout the Holocaust

Targets of the Holocaust • Jehovah’s Witness’ were one of the many targets as well • After the Nazi rise to power their religious meetings were outlawed • They continued to meet • In April 1935 the group was completely banned • Those who defied that rule were sent to concentration camps • Casualties totaled at around 2,500 to 5,000
