  1. White Stream (former GUEU) Gas Pipeline project Giorgi Vashakmadze GUEU – White Stream Pipeline Company Limited Energy Forum, Prague, November 2007

  2. Caspian gas to Europe White Stream- A new additional branch of the East-West Energy Corridor Existing and planned gas pipelines into EuropeCaspian gas can become an important diversification from Russian gas

  3. White Stream is now also studying direct subsea route from Georgian shore to Romania White Stream Route OptionsOption 1:Georgia/Crimea (Ukraine)/Romania Option 2:Georgia Direct to Romania Option 2 to Romania is shorter though it has a longer sub-sea crossing

  4. Natural gas networks – axes for priority projects (TEN-E) • Caspian gas becoming a strong independent supply source for Europe • Recent progress on TGI and Nabucco • Start of dialogue with Turkmenistan • Further reduction of transportation risks

  5. Synergy effect: Enhancing Caspian gas export potential Promotes upstream Caspian investment: Additional route increases demand Reduces risks in Caspian gas investments by diversification of export options and buyers Advances time of large scale exploitation of Caspian gas resources Synergy and mutually reinforcing effect with southern loop gas projects (through Turkey) Competitive alternative and additional source to existing gas supply in Romania and other EU and non EU countries

  6. Black Sea crossing:ultra-deep water offshore pipeline to Romania Proven technology for White Stream pipeline • White Stream will cross the Black Sea predominantly at the same depth as Blue Stream and benefit from technology already developed for Blue Stream Crossing by gas tankers to different destinations was examined but pipeline was found to be preferred solution

  7. White Stream will be developed in steps – each step expanding delivery by around 8 bcm/year White Streamlong term plan Development in Phases Incremental bcm/y Phase one Azeri gas 8 Phase two Azeri gas or Eastern Caspian gas 8 Phase three Additional Eastern Caspian gas 16 Total quantity 32 Total is ~ 5% of EU demand in 2030

  8. All currently foreseen routes (oil and gas, Turkey and Black Sea) pass through Georgia This reliance on the corridor can be further strengthened by the Energy Community by accepting Georgia East-West Energy Corridor.
