  2. Imagery is … Descriptive language that helps a reader to form detailed mental images of the writer’s story by the use of words that appeal to the 5 senses.

  3. The language most often includes “sensory words”, or words that convey something you can see, hear, taste, smell, or feel.Here are a fewexamples……See if you can identify the sensory words.

  4. The dancer wore a skirt that draped like a melting snowflake.

  5. Like a mighty eagle, the F-16 streaked down from the clouds for a kill.

  6. The black ooze squelched beneath my feet, releasing the stench of decay, ruin, and regret.

  7. Remember, these words help the reader to visualize; this is one of the active reading skills we’ve been talking about.
