  1. Transformations

  2. Go through and take notes on the Apex Lesson 9.3 in the ACTKMA Prep Class for background on transformations and their effects on area and volume. Apex Lesson

  3. Watch these Videos: • Similarity and Area Ratios • Similarity and Volume Ratios Be sure to take notes! More Information on Transformations

  4. Example: Orion plans to build a circular pool with either a 30-foot (ft) radius or a 15-ft radius, as shown below. The cost of a cement path around the edge of the pool depends on the circumference of the pool. If the materials for the path around the 30-ft radius pool cost $100, what would be the cost of the materials for the path around the 15-ft radius pool? First, how many times bigger is the circumference of the big pool compared to the circumference of the small one? Remember, circumference is different than area and volume. Great Job! A. Twice as big C. Eight times as big B. Four times as big D. 30 times as big Click on the star that best matches your answer.

  5. Remember the 15 foot radius pool’s circumference is half that of the 30 foot radius pool Fantastic! C. $50 A. $85 D. $25 B. $75 Click on the star that best matches your answer.

  6. Example 2: Each dimension of a rectangle is reduced by a factor of 1/3. The area of the rectangle is multiplied by which factor? Remember, area is the factor squared. Smarty! 1/3 B. 1/6 C. 1/9 D. 1/12 Click on the star that best matches your answer.

  7. Now you are ready to complete and hand in the transformation homework! Homework
