  2. The Kuiper Belt A computer generated picture shows what is now to be the Kuiper belt which lies about 50 AU (AstronomicalUnit) away from our solar systems sun. That’s about fifty times the distance from the moon to the sun.

  3. What is The Kuiper Belt? The Kuiper belt is similar to an asteroid belt but is filled with a variety of space objects from small asteroids to some of our solar systems moons like Neptune’s Triton to dwarf planets like Pluto and Makemake. These objects in Kuiper Belt are classified as K.B.Os

  4. Origin In 1951, Astronomer Gerard Peter “Kuiper” talked about the existence of a disc shaped region in space past Neptune as a source were comets come into the orbit of our solar system. In 1992, with all the new technology the Kuiper Belt went from theory to fact as scientist proved the existence of a region of space where a belt of clusters of space objects was.

  5. The Oort Cloud

  6. What is the Oort Cloud? The Oort cloud is a cluster of comets about 50,000 AU from the sun. It usually takes the Oort Cloud thirty million years to make one whole trip around the sun. What makes this so special is that it is where most comets that are in our solar system originate, kind of like a bigger Kuiper Belt only this cluster of comets surrounds our solar system and is much farther past the Kuiper Belts orbit. And even though the Oort cloud sends these comets into our solar system, the comet would have to travel more than a light-year to pass the orbit of our solar system’s Outer Planets. That’s a relief.

  7. Orgin In 1950, Dutch astronomer Jan Hendrik “Oort” proposed the idea that comets might originate in a “cloud” of material ( now called the Oort Cloud ). Orbiting the sun at great distances, the orbits of these comets are occasionally disrupted by the gravitational influence of nearby stars sending them hurtling towards the inner solar system.
