  1. From nTOF to EXFOR and JEFF:A Proposal for a Data Dissemination Strategy Tim Ware n_TOF Analysis Meeting, CERN 13th April 2011

  2. Background Motivations Current status Proposals Overview

  3. There may be people here whom; are already involved in EXFOR, JEFF etc are… have evaluated nuclear data already doing all that I will propose So please bear with me… Acknowledgement

  4. n_TOF has conducted many high resolution neutron cross section measurements since 2001 A key motivation for measurements is development of nuclear technology -transmutation of nuclear waste, accelerator driven systems, nuclear fuel cycle Several measurements now published in well-established journals n_TOF

  5. CINDA through NRDCs EXFOR (CSISRS) through NRDCs Evaluated Nuclear Data libraries (e.g. JEFF) Data Publication

  6. International Network of Nuclear Reaction Data Centres Core centres; NNDC (Brookhaven), NEA (Paris), IAEA (Vienna), Russian NDC (Obninsk) Compilation of bibliographic info (CINDA) Compilation of exp. reaction data (EXFOR), Collection of evaluated reaction data (ENDF) Dissemination of nuclear reaction data and associated documentation NRDC

  7. Computer Index of Nuclear Reaction Data “Bibliographic references to measurements, calculations, reviews, and evaluations of neutron cross sections and other microscopic neutron data.” Index references to computer libraries of numerical neutron data available from NRDCs CINDA

  8. Extensive compilation of experimental nuclear reaction data 18,000 experiments Majority neutron reactions Some charged particle / photon reactions Common EXchange FORmat EXFOR

  9. Joint Evaluated Fission and Fusion File Evaluated library produced via international collaboration under auspices of NEA Data Bank Neutron reaction data, thermal neutron scattering law data, incident proton data, radioactive decay data, fission yields data, activation data ENDF/B (USA) and JENDL (Japan) evaluated libraries are of a similar nature JEFF

  10. Allow all nuclear data users easier access to improved data from n_TOF Promotion of n_TOF activities and raised awareness in JEFF and CERN communities Involvement of the experimenters in entering data into CINDA, EXFOR and JEFF improves the quality of these databases Data is preserved and can be easily recovered Motivations for Data Publication

  11. Publication in EXFOR is an important step in the evaluation of the data and inclusion into evaluated data libraries (JEFF, ENDF/B, JENDL) Data from these libraries are recognised as the current standard and readily accessible to all nuclear data users Satisfaction of n_TOF experimenters to see data in use Possible future funding for n_TOF measurements by nuclear industry users? Motivations for Data Publication

  12. (Some) n_TOF publications in CINDA Some n_TOF data is in EXFOR Extracted from conference proceedings and published papers by “EXFOR team” Resonance parameters, cross sections from graphs Some experimental details Data that is unpublished includes; Capture yields, full experimental details Resonance parameters, covariances No n_TOF data in evaluated libraries Current Status

  13. Check / submit existing n_TOF publications to CINDA (preferably by lead authors) Check what n_TOF data is in EXFOR and submit remaining data (and corrections?) (preferably by lead authors) Make the above conventional for future n_TOF measurements Obtain/develop formatting software Establish contact with “EXFOR team” Proposal: n_TOF to EXFOR

  14. Advertise the published n_TOF measurement data and resonance parameters (and availability in EXFOR) to evaluators Present to bi-annual JEFF meeting Evaluate the new resonance parameters Undertake resonance analysis of measured data where resonance parameters do not already exist Identify evaluators within n_TOF collaboration Start with nuclides where new data is clearly superior to existing evaluated data Involvement of original experimenters preferred Proposal: n_TOF to JEFF

  15. Propose new evaluations to JEFF for inclusion in future library releases Future development; Establish relationship between experimenters and evaluators – can be the same people Build experience/expertise within n_TOF collaboration in resonance analysis and data evaluation Proposal: n_TOF to JEFF

  16. Questions? Discussion…
