Practice 5 Concept. Attacking with Speed. Why Attack with Speed?. Puts pressure on the other teams defensemen. Requires them to make a decision about which player to cover. The faster you’re skating, the greater the chance they’ll make the wrong decision.

  2. Why Attack with Speed? • Puts pressure on the other teams defensemen. • Requires them to make a decision about which player to cover. The faster you’re skating, the greater the chance they’ll make the wrong decision. • Opens up the ice for scoring chances.

  4. Typical Attack Situation – The two players closest to the other team’s zone always go hard to the net. In this case, it is left winger and right winger. LW X C X RW

  5. Typical Attack Situation – The two players closest to the other team’s zone always go hard to the net. In this case, it is left winger and right winger. LW X C X RW

  6. Typical Attack Situation – Notice that the third player has stayed high. LW X C X RW

  8. Typical Attack Situation # 2 – In this case, the speed pressure will be on the right wing and straight down the middle. LW X C X RW

  9. Typical Attack Situation #2 – The two players closest to the other team’s zone always go hard to the net. In this case, it is left winger and center. LW X C X RW

  10. Typical Attack Situation – Notice again that the third player has stayed high, but this time it was the right winger instead of the center. LW X C RW X

  11. Typical Attack Situation # 3 – Puck carrier is not one of the first two players. In this case the RW should headman the puck to one of the closer players. LW X C X RW

  12. Typical Attack Situation # 3 – Now the speed pressure will be straight down the middle with support on the right wing. LW X C X RW

  13. Typical Attack Situation # 3 – Stick on the ice and get to the net. LW X C X RW

  14. Typical Attack Situation #3 – If you’re the third player in, always make sure that you don’t get caught deep. LW X C RW X
