World of Work Create and nurture partnerships between education and business to support young people and the unemployed: Wolverhampton Growth Pledge 4+ campaign Placement Hub Business Ambassadors Work Experience: young people and the unemployed Skills Factory: industrial placements for teachers Encouraging enterprise, Empowering people, Re-invigorating our city Prosperity for all

Skills for Growth The skills needed for the Wolverhampton economy to grow: Need employers at the centre driving skills investment and supporting employability (SFA/NAS/EFA/ESF/JCP) Sector Skills and Employment Plans City Deal:proposals to government for flexibilities and freedoms to help grow the Black Country economy by £1billion Employer Ownership of Skills (£3.2m Black Country bid submitted), Skills Factory (£1.8m UKCES programme) Promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math's (STEM) to young people, for example: JLR Education Business Partnership Centre University Partnership for Sci Fest’ STEMNET Encouraging enterprise, Empowering people, Re-invigorating our city Prosperity for all

Employment Support New funding landscape: need to work in partnership Wolverhampton Employability Partnership: training providers, college, AES, JC Plus, Work Programme providers, National Careers Service, Wolverhampton Homes, VCS, Skills Funding Agency, City Council working in partnership ‘Journey to Work’ mapping has been completed. Partnership Plan being finalised Youth Contract supporting: 16-17 year olds and 18-24 year olds £9.5m Big Lotto Talent Match funding to tackle Youth Unemployment across the Black Country. City Deal proposals include support for the long term unemployed Pre Employment Programme – proposal submitted to JLR Partnership working on the Graduate Offer and Jobs Fairs Encouraging enterprise, Empowering people, Re-invigorating our city Prosperity for all

  6. Information and Support A major issue for employers: how can we help them to access the Wolverhampton offer? Strong focus in helping local companies win business through Meet the Buyer events and FinditinWolverhampton Employers need high quality information on the skills offer: web based resources through a single Portal / provider information, National Careers Service, Area Prospectus. Need for increased partnership working including Knowledge Sharing seminars for employer engagement teams across the partnership Case studies for business impact and best practice Need a simple message to raise awareness of what employers can do (Growth Pledge) Encouraging enterprise, Empowering people, Re-invigorating our city Prosperity for all

The Impact of your Pledge You will help people to achieve their potential (and earn more) NVQ Level 4 – Up 101% to £36,348 NVQ Level 3 – Up 39% to £25,168 NVQ Level 2 – Up 27% to £23,036 NVQ Level 1 – Up 20% to £21,684 Average Wage for No Qualifications £18,096 Encouraging enterprise, Empowering people, Re-invigorating our city Prosperity for all

The Impact of your Pledge The wider economy will grow: • A fifth of economic growth is due to improvements in workforce skills • So just 1% growth in the Wolverhampton Economy (currently £4.3b GVA) will mean an extra £43m per annum.
