  1. Year 8 Options Making the right choices… What choices can I make? How should I choose? What happens on Option Evening? What do I do to make an option choice?

  2. Year 8 Options Evening Wednesday 15th February 2012 From 6:30pm to 8:00pm All students in Year 8 are expected to attend IN FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM with an adult.

  3. Year 8 Options Evening Wednesday 15th February 2012 All need to go to “central” talk here in the Performance Hall. It is done 3 times: TimeSurnames of Learner 6.30 – 7.00pm A - G 7.00- 7.30pm H - M 7.30 – 8.00pm N - Z Details are in the letter inviting parents. Everyone needs to be here ready to begin at 6.30pm - it’s not like an Open Evening - everything is timed.

  4. Year 8 Options Evening Wednesday 15th February 2012 For the time you and your parents are not in the Performance Hall you have 4 x 15 minute slots to go to four different subject Options Meetings. They will be in rooms on the GROUND and FIRST floors only.

  5. Year 9 Courses from September 2012 All Year 8 students will begin GCSE courses in September 2012. Subjects that remain non-optional… English Mathematics Science MFL R.E. P.E

  6. The English Baccalaureate A combination of GCSE qualifications includes:- • English GCSE • Mathematics GCSE • Dual/ Triple Science GCSE • History or Geography GCSE • Any MFL GCSE

  7. Pathways LEVEL 5 in English and Maths? • Three GCSE route • Optional Vocational Courses (Year 10) • Additional English and/or Maths support • Four GCSE route • Triple Science • 2nd or 3rd MFL • Diploma option (Year 10) BELOW ABOVE

Off-site Vocational Courses Blue Pathway • These are only for people who are mature and sensible enough to be trusted to go to placements away from school, some are as much as 4 or 5 miles away. • These courses will begin in Year 10. • We expect to be able to offer courses in: • Construction • Catering • Hair & Beauty • Motor Vehicles

  13. Year 8 Options Evening Next steps… Read through ‘Options Booklet’ (also available on website www.walkden.uk.com) Speak to people about the right choice for you RETURN Options forms by THURSDAY 1st March 2012 Options Counseling Interviews if needed.
