  1. Prepping HBD for Run10HBD Meeting 12-15-09 B.Azmoun, C.Woody, M.Proissl, S.Stoll Brookhaven National Laboratory

  2. Bertan HV Tests (12/7/09) • CF4 purged through det. for almost four days at 4.5slpm (mechanical gauge reading) before tests started. • Successfully performed Bertan HV tests on all individual GEMs of both arms of HBD.  All GEMs are OK (few nA@ dV=500V), except for three known problems in the West, two known problems in the East, and one NEW problem in the East: • WN1-T: Dead Short • WS1-T: 410nA@500V • WS2-B: 281nA@500V • EN2-T: 14.6uA@500V • EN2-M: 21.8uA@500V • NEW>>ES1-M: 280nA@500V • After Bertan tests completed, raised the HV on all modules using LeCroy HV system to 3500V (EN2: 3000V): all looks good, no trips after 1hr of operation. Refer to the attached jpg for a snap shot of the surveillance panel.

  3. Scintillation Cube Measurement

  4. Refurbishment of Hutch Spectrometer Complete After Refurbishing Still have to investigate this bump Before Refurbishing • Replaced ALL Optics with better collimation (required tedious re-alignment of entire spectrometer) • Discovered that pumping on Spect. Volume results in rapid deterioration of detected light intensity • film deposit on optical surfaces verified by cleaning windows and comparing to earlier scans • From now on purge Ar through Spect. Vessel only • Rearranged HVC plumbing to allow pumping on Cells independent of Spect. Volume • now can pump on cells while purging spect. Volume with Ar. • Now flow high purity Ar through cells during Ref. Scan, so Trans. Scans are now relative to Ar Trans. • (Occasionally check Ar Trans. Wrt Vac) • Lamp intensity has been relatively constant for 1 month after the refurbishing; the spectrometer doesn’t exhibit earlier behavior where the intensity would drop by several factors over a few months • Final Results are quite impressive: the wavelength range over which a measurement is now possible • has been extended from 140-175nm to 115-185nm.
