Background • WEHT serves a population of nearly 0.25 million • Acute hospital (RHCH) at Winchester • > 500 beds • 2829 staff (1551 clinicians) • Andover community hospital • The Mount at Eastleigh • Mid-Hants PCT • Eastleigh Primary Care Group • West Hampshire NHS Trust • Mental health Served by our Outreach Librarian, Anne Lancey

  3. Background to the CSL project • Driven by Clinical governance agenda • Support evidence based practice • Increase librarian involvement in clinical processes e.g. audit • Increase visibility and accessibility in clinical areas to: Raise awareness of how we can help clinicians

  4. What the CSL offers to pilot areas • Literature searching • Training (basic Internet + DB searching) • One to one • Groups • Supporting ‘local’ resources (e.g. Melbury Lodge’s resource centre) • Supporting lifelong learning opportunities

  5. CSL pilot areas at RHCH • RDU (rehabilitation development unit for stroke patients) - integrated care pathway + • Angio team - developing an ICP • Mental health team at Melbury Lodge (West Hampshire NHS Trust) – establishing a local resource centre, supporting an evidence based practice group and delivering training

  6. Responsive, pro-active service? • Visible presence • Attendance at MD meetings • ICP meetings • Evidence based practice group • Ad hoc and planned meetings with key personnel • Backed up by the Library team and resources

  7. RDU model • Supporting clinical practice • Providing the evidence base for new initiatives; • ICPs • Guidelines • Supporting lifelong learning and research

  8. Angio ICP • Comparisons (using the NeLH Care Pathways Database) • Researching the evidence base for pathway elements

  9. Evidence based group • Literature searching • Document delivery • Helping set up local resource room • Training

  10. Other responsibilities • Scheduled group training • Library IT • Other duties: • Literature searching • Enquiry desk • Ad hoc training sessions • Manual handling co-ordinator!

  12. Future improvements & developments • Increasing training element of project • Better delivery of service across of the MD teams (mainly nurses and PAMs using at the moment) • Evolving to suit pilot areas needs • Project evaluation
