The bridge • Tower bridge complemented London bridge because of London’s expansion southward. • It is 244 meters long, 16 meters wide, 65 meters high and weight 11 000 ton. • The total cost of the construction was £ 1, 840, 000 • Today it would cost almost 1, 840, 0000 sek. • It took 8 years to build the bridge. • It was opened June 30:th 1894

  4. When was it built? • In 1886 they started to build the ground to the tower in the river Thames in London. After eight years of construction the bridge was completed. It was also when the royal opening was held.

London bridge • Tower bridge was built on a site where there used to be a wooden bridge called London Bridge. • When they built the new bridge 1884 they made it of steel and covered the outside with granite and stone instead of wood. • Between the two towers there is a footbridge. • In one of the towers the history of the famous drawbridge is shown. • You can also see the old Victorian machines there.

  6. Tower Bridge • It is a bascule bridge that today isn’t opened as often as the old bridge was. • It is not as many highly loaded ships who passes under the bridge today as before. • The big harbour is situated outside London.

  7. Horace Jones John Wolfe Barry • It was Horace Jones and John Wolfe Barry who designed the Bridge.
