  1. P6 Enhancement Requests 2011 Version 8.1 and beyond

  2. Categories • Import/Export • Printing • Activity Views • Comparison & Analysis • Updates & Progressing • Gantt Chart & Bars • Budgeting & Costs • Activity Details • Global Change • User Experience

  3. 1. Import/Export • More formats than XML for import • Ability to export views with a project • A “data stripping” feature to allow clean imports without meta data such as codes, upon import • Options to “mark” import meta data so those resources, codes, UDF, etc are tagged as part of the imported project (IE: xx-Bob Smith, xx-Change #456) • Ability to export multiple projects in one XML file • Check box options where, if calendar doesn’t match, make project calendar. Same with UDF and cost accounts

  4. 2. Printing • Ability to highlight an activity and print WSIWYG • Print preview on all views • Print 12 months to a page of a non-working calendar • Print to 11 X 17page and to plotters

  5. 3. Activity Views • Ability to send project views when copying a project. • A steps column to display progress of steps (eg, Step 5 of 9 complete). • Ability to highlight an activity or to use conditional formatting. • “Lag” as a column. • Ability to filter the logic in a Gantt chart (eg., filter and show only driving, etc.). • Add notebooks to trace logic view. • Create a floating pallette of resource allocations histograms so can be seen with activity table. • Ability to lock a view.

  6. 4. Comparison & Analysis • Ability to compare baseline activity calendars to project activity calendars • Ability to auto-level a reflection or copy of a project and to have a “leveled dates” field to compare to non-leveled dates • Ability to compare EV from period to period

  7. 5. Updates & Progressing • Utilize start and finish dates from the baseline rather than planned dates (problematic once baseline contains progress) • Update actuals figure by start and finish rather than by planned dates or provide an option • Suspend and resume often default to midnight and should be separated from the time setting • In Progress Reporter input provide option to allow a single input to parse over a week

  8. 6. Gantt Charts & Bars • Ability to group in the Gantt chart • When no baseline is set Gantt chart should show no bars • More color options for Summary bars, perhaps based on WBS

  9. 7. Budgeting & Costs • Provide different currencies at the project level instead of as an Application Level Setting • Top down budgeting returned as a feature • Provide more than 5 rate types for roles and resources • Enhanced use of P6 as an estimating tool

  10. 8. Activity Details • Ability to customize a details “portlet” on activities screen, eg., UDFs, assigned codes, etc. • Provide a tab for user defined fields just as General, Status, etc.

  11. 9. Global Change • Ability to batch global changes • Enhanced global change to overcome start and finish not being equal to actuals on a baseline

  12. 10. User Experience • Embed UPK “do it” into P6 • Allow CTRL+F search feature • Ability to create a schedule using a logic diagram which then creates the WBS from grouping and the activities from boxes • Feature to drag and drop WBS elements • More clarity in the installation documentation • Provide a combined F9 and F5 so screen refresh happens when project is scheduled
