  6. What is history? • History is a study of how people lived in the past and the events they experienced • Benefit of studying history? • It allows us to learn from the mistakes of past societies and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes

  7. How do we find out about the past? • Look for and analyse evidence • Archaeologist – someone who studies the past by looking for and classifying material remains such as ruins and bones

  8. Primary vs. secondary sources of information • Primary source – a source of evidence that existed or was created during the time period being studied • Secondary source – a source that gives information about an earlier time, but was prepared after that time

  11. Develop and test hypotheses Hypothesis – a possible explanation of what might have happened, based on available evidence By looking at this photo of Tutankhamun, what can we guess his life was like?
