Aims of the Conference

Within the framework of UNCLOS and the 2050 AIM Strategy,

the aim of the Conference is to contribute to the development

of the African Integrated Maritime Human Resources Development (HRD) Strategy and the various continental policies which need to complement the AIM Strategy.

The Conference will do so by:

● contributing to the finalisation of continent-wide maritime sector capacity and

ocean governance reviews;

● mapping processes to identify and draft the required policies as well as to

implement the 2050 AIM Strategy in the field of training, education, research and

innovation;

● developing structures to coordinate and drive the drafting of policies as well as

the capacity development agenda in the field of training, education, research and

innovation; and

● being organised in such a way that the work done with regard to the

implementation of the 2050 AIM Strategy in the field of training, education,

research and innovation is informed by the work done with regard to ocean

governance and vice versa.
