  9. STANDBY SIGNAL NO. 1 This is a stand-by signal, indicating that a tropical cyclone is centred within 800 km of Hong Kong and may affect the territory.

  10. STRONG WIND SIGNAL NO. 3 • Strong winds are expected or blowing in Victoria Harbour, with a sustained speed of 41-62 km/h (kilometres per hour). Gusts may exceed 110 km/h. Winds are normally expected to become generally stronger in the harbour areas within 12 hours after the issuing of this signal.

  11. COLD WEATHER WARNING • It is important that members of the public take note of these warnings and take steps to protect themselves and their family against cold or very hot weather. For an update on the status of weather warnings, the public may listen to radio and television broadcasts, or call the Observatory Dial-a-Weather service, or the Observatory Internet homepage.

  12. AMBER RAINSTORM SIGNAL • Heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

  13. RED RAINSTORM SIGNAL • Heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 50 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

  14. BLACK RAINSTORM SIGNAL • Very heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 70 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.
