  1. Pavlovian or “Classical” Conditioning…. HOW’S IT WORK? We’ll need a sample dog. Since there’s no shocking involved, we’ll use Mrs. Bernard’s dog Petey –age 1.

  2. Pavlov knew dogs naturally respond to food….how? THEY SALIVATE! Petey

  3. But they DON’T naturally respond to stimuli like bells! What was that?

  4. So he decided to PAIR the two stimuli together….the food & the bell…and present it to the dog + “Ding” Over and over and over

  5. LAST STEP? He presented the dog ONLY the BELL…. “Ding!”

  6. The doggie then salivated to the sound of the bell!! Remember…she didn’t do this before

  7. SO….PeteyLEARNED TO RESPOND TO A NEW STIMULI

  8. Let’s take a look-see at Pavlov’s ideas at work in Consumer Psychology….
