  1. Ending The Bush Tax Cuts:The Future of Our Economy

  2. Who do the tax cuts really help? • What is the average income  for the top .1%? • The hyper-rich • The rich are getting richer; The poor are getting poorer • The problem • A solution

  3. What do Americans want? • Most Americans, including those who would be affected by the taxes, want the tax cuts to expire for the super rich. This is completely unprecedented because Americans almost always oppose more taxes of any kind.

  4. What about small businesses? • Supporters argue that tax cuts for the rich create jobs • Businesses hire new workers when it is profitable, not when they can afford it • “If the goods produced by additional workers can be sold for at least enough to cover their salaries, hiring makes economic sense, no matter how poor a business owner might be. But if additional workers won’t produce enough to cover their salaries, hiring is a losing move, even for the richest  owners. The after-tax personal incomes of business owners are irrelevant for hiring decisions.”  -Robert H. Frank

  5. Tax Cuts vs. The People • Between 2001-2010, over half of the 1.3 trillion dollars in tax cuts has gone to the top 1% of the nation. • That is as much as the 700 billion dollar stimulus package. • This money could have been used to better public schools, build roads, or help stimulate the economy.

  6. What’s best for everyone? • The middle class spends more and puts more money into the economy than the super rich. No taxes for them means more spending, a better economy, and in the end helps everyone in the country.
