  8. The art of navigation was born in the river Sindh 5000 years ago. The very word "Navigation" is derived from the Sanskrit word NAVGATIH. Budhayana first calculated the value of pi, and he explained the concept of what is now known as the Pythagorean Theorem. British scholars have last year (1999) officially published that Budhayan's works dates to the 6th Century, which is long before the European mathematicians. Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus came from India. Quadratic Equations were by Sridharacharya in the 11th Century. According to the Gemological Institute of America, up until 1896, India was the only source of diamonds to the world. USA based IEEE has proved what has been a century-old suspicion amongst academics that the pioneer of wireless communication was Professor Jagdish Bose and not Marconi.

Sushruta is the father of surgery. 2600 years ago he and health scientists of his time conducted surgeries like cesareans, cataract, fractures and urinary stones. Usage of anesthesia was well known in ancient India. When many cultures in the world were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley (Indus Valley Civilization). The place value system, the decimal system was developed in India in 100 BC. India is the birthplace of major eastern religions including Hinduism (Oldest), Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Buddhism which spread as far as Japan in the East to Greece in the west, was founded by Siddartha Gautama Buddha (600 BC) in India.

  10. Two of the world's six oldest languages Sanskrit and Tamil are from India. The other four are Chinese, Greek, Latin & Arabic. Rules of grammar was established over 3000 years back for these old languages. Many English words originated from Sanskrit & Tamil: Sanskrit: Guru, Pundit, Mantra, Sutra, Nirvana, Juggernaut, Raja, Yoga, Jungle, Orange, Singapore, Aryan, Mandarin (Govt Officer) etc. Tamil: Cash (Kaasu), Curry (Kari), Catamaran, Coolie (Kooli), Ginger (Injiver), Mango (Mann-gai), Mulligatawny, Pariah • Kalari Payat martial art was invented in 500BC in Kerala. Bought to China through Indian Monk, Bodhidharma. Shaolin temple monks consider this as parent of Kung-fu and Karate. Yoga and Meditation was invented in India. Kamasutra – World’s oldest treatise on Sex, written in India.

Over 1000 years before, before the invention of any modern day ships, planes, Cars, construction equipment, printing press, computer etc: World's largest epic/ poetry was written: Mahabharata (2 times the size of Illiad & Homer combined) was written in Sanskrit 6th century BC World's largest Moral code containing 1330 verses "Thirukural" was written in Tamil in 1st century BC Indians kings built temples 10 storeys high in 1300 years back (700AD) Indians invented alloys - Steel and Bronze – Eg: Chandra Steel Pillar in Delhi (Gupta Dynasty 4c AD) and Chola Five Metal Bronze Nataraja (3c AD) Indian Chola kings sent Marine expeditions in 700 AD across south-east Asia. Their influence is seen in temples of Angor Wat, Thailand, Indonesia-Bali even today. Sanskrit & Indian influence is still seen in ASEAN names: Singapore (Lion City), Garuda (Indonesia’s airline), King Rama/ Siam (Thailand), Bandar Sari Begawan (Monkey God), Bhoomi Putra (Malaysia).

  12. If we don't see even a glimpse of that great India in the India that we see today, it clearly means that we are not working up to our potential. If we have the vision and work hard, we could once again be an ever shining and inspiring country setting a bright path for rest of the world to follow. 21st Century is India's!
