  2. TELEMEDICINE Def: Medical information is transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations, (use of communicationsand information technologiesfor the delivery of clinical care).

  3. Telehealth: Refer to clinical and non-clinical services such as medical education, administration, and research. E-health: Umbrella term that includes telehealth, electronic medical records, and other components of health IT. There are concerns that physicians in future may become ‘telecarers’, at least for part of their working time. A telecarer is a health professional who delivers responsive, high-quality information services, and supports remote patients or clients by using the most appropriate communication technology, such as the telephone, email or instant messaging. The advantages of telecare are the possibility of working from home and better continuity of patient care.

  4. Benefits: Decrease number of visits to the doctor, share solving traffic problem. Audio / Video Contact at home – telemonitoring. Health care professionals shortage will be recovered, (populations living in isolated communities). communication tool between a general practitioner and a specialist. Cell phone monitoring (heart example). Decrease admission to hospitals, allow time for serious cases. Linking home monitoring devices to EHRs. Save costs, better quality…

  5. Disadvantages & Obstacles: No corporation is error free. Malfunctioning of the device which has caused more problems for the user. (In some cases the malfunctioning has also resulted in death of the patient) Lack of technical support (software &hardware). Availability of certain equipments to send images. Very expensive (however the long term benefits far outweigh the costs). Changing MINDS. Legal implications. Lack of standards..

  15. Telemonitoring Home Telehealth is a service that gives the clinician the ability to monitor and measure patient health data and information over geographical, social, and cultural distances. This monitoring includes use of both video and non-video technologies. The application of these technologies allows for increased access to health services, improved disease management, improved self-care management and earlier and proactive interventions for positive outcomes.. The decisions of which technology to use are driven by the patient's clinical need and the objectives and resources of the organization. Technologies utilized include: Store & Forward, video, messaging, and remote monitoring which may include some or all of the following sensors- ECG, pulse oximetry, vital signs, stethoscope, weight , and glucose.
