  1. Zoonotic diseases • There is a place in Ohio that specializes in preventing diseases that are passed from animals to humans. • A zoonotic disease is a disease which can be transmitted from animals to humans. The disease may or may not produce clinical illness in the animal. The Zoonotic Disease Program is focused on preventing transmission of diseases from animals to humans.

  2. How u can get infected Most common way of getting infect is by ingestion, but you can get infected by inhalation or contact with infected animal products, soil, water, or other environmental surfaces which have been contaminated with animal waste or a dead animal. So if u were going to go hunting, be safe and check to see if there are any diseases are present in the population of animals u wish to be protected from.

  3. Directly Transmitted Those which can be transmitted directly from animals to humans (e.g. rabies)

  4. Animal Reservoirs A disease which has an animal reservoir, but requires a mosquito can be used as a “bridge” to transmit the disease to humans. Kind of like the West Nile Virus.

  5. Incubation of diseases • When a disease gets inside a human sometimes what it will do is build up enough power to take over for a time this is called incubation time. This period between getting affected and showing signs of infection can vary from a few hour to a few days or even up to a few years for certain infections.

  6. Diagnosing infection If u go to a place and lets say one of ur family members gets sick what u can do to help them can vary, but be sure that one of the first steps is to visit a doctor they are very helpful in diagnosing all diseases. Only go to a doctor if u have recently come from a place where an endemic has started or u don’t feel good and your symptoms match an illness that u could have gotten. The best medicine is prevention so before going anywhere get a vaccination administered by a trained nurse, to anything u mite encounter

  7. Common diseases around Canada Now in Canada there are a few disease that seem to be running rampant I will now outline a very significant one to Canada

  8. West Nile This disease has come over from Africa in huge sand cloud from the north tip and is deposited in the United States near Florida. From there the disease went north towards Canada it spread like fire and kills the weak. All in all it is not bad to have it gets rid of the sick and weak, like a lion to a herd of zebra. All residents of areas where virus activity has been noticed are at risk of West Nile virus.People over 50 years of age get the worst of it and have higher chances of dieing.

  9. Prevention These little critters breed really fast so another way to prevent them from biting you is to not let them breed. You can do this by pouring stagnant water out on ground so they can’t reproduce in it The main way of getting this virus is getting a bite from a mosquitoes bite. So in order to prevent yourself from Getting the disease is to prevent mosquitoes of biting you one main way u can do this is by using bug spray. A bug spray with lots of DEET is best not because it makes bug dislike you more. It only lasts a lot longer than most other bug spray.

  10. Symptoms Most people who catch the West Nile virus will not have any type of illness. Around 20% of the people who become infected will develop West Nile fever. The mild symptoms, includefever, headache, and body aches, occasionally with a skin rash on the trunk of the body and swollen lymph glands. The symptoms of severe infection include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, and paralysis. It is estimated that 1 in 150 persons infected with the West Nile virus will develop a more severe form of disease. The incubation of this disease is estimated from 3-14 days.
