Mla format
MLA Format!

  • Cite all information taken from any outside source; identify and acknowledge the source where the information came from.

  • If you have multiple sources, you will need to have a “Works Cited” page at the end of your essay. We will go into this in more detail in a future lesson.

MLA

  • Citation examples:

  • When using a quote to support your point in the middle of a paragraph, the way to cite is as follows:

    • Example: Delano is described as “a man of such native simplicity as to be incapable of satire or irony” (Melville 287).

    • After you use the quote, you put the author’s last name and the page number that the quote came from, in parentheses.

MLA

  • When paraphrasing, you MUST still cite in order to avoid plagiarism.

  • When using a block quote, you do not need to use actual quotation marks (“ “) because you will be indenting the entire quote.

  • After a block quote, you simply add the page number in parentheses.

MLA

  • Your essays and all future work must be in MLA paper format. The major rules are:

    • All margins must be set at one inch.

    • Use 12 point font, generally Times New Roman. And, always double space.

    • The heading must be on the top left side of the page.
