  1. Summary and Conclusions Chris Hokans

  2. Artisan Studio and MBSE • Despite technical issues with some software tools, SysML and MBSE are valuable for managing system development • Lessons learned from class directly applicable to workplace • MBSE can be successful even with distributed teams • Requires planning and forethought of configuration management issues

  3. Class Content and Approach • Recommend devoting more class time to hands-on work with modeling tool • For a modeling class, tests prove nothing more than proficiency with test-taking • First half of class allotted to presenting information • Remainder of class allotted to working with modeling tool • Focus on team progress to avoid disparities in project quality • Also focus on team dynamics to avoid unproductive team members • Expect more from students • Provide reading assignments so students are prepared to learn specific modeling • Post-class assignment (that is, team project) could implement skills learned in class

  4. Class Project • Establish teams within the first 2 to 3 classes • Provides time for “storming and norming” that is natural process of team building • Ensures teams are functioning and producing before midterm • May want to have interim status reports from teams to assess progress • Identify and correct model or tool issues early • Ensures teams are functioning and producing before midterm
