  3. What is GPS used for? GPSstands for Global Positioning System (GPS) which is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites that helps communicate your orientation anywhere around the world. Similarly, TAP helps orient you to Santa Susana High School with information about what is happening at school, support for your school success, and information on special topics like Senior Project and Certification.

  4. TAP is an Advisory Program. Let’s start with what an advisory is

  5. Advisoryis a small group of students who identifies with and belongs to one teacher. The teacher nurtures andadvocates for the students in that group. (Cole)

  6. An advisory program allows an adult and a small group of students to interact on a regular basis in order to provide: • A caring environment for academic guidance & support • Everyday administrative details • Recognition • Activities to promote citizenship (NMSA Research Summary #9: Advisory Programs, from www. nmsa.org)

  7. Why Advisory? What does the research say? “Secondary administrators and teachers have long understood the advantages of positive relationships between educators and students. Trust, respect, mutual obligation, and concern for others’ welfare can have powerful effects on educators’ and learners’ interpersonal relationships as well as learners’ academic achievement and overall school progress.” (Manning & Saddlemire)
