En 1965 participó en la exposición The Responsive Eye (el ojo sensible), organizada por el MOMA de Nueva York, junto con Vasarely, Frank Stella, Josef Albers, Lawrence Poons y otros destacados artistas que dieron carta de naturaleza al Op Art. … Las obras de Riley, no obstante su abstracción, tratan de evocar su propia experiencia visual del mundo.
