  1. Askern Camera Club Maintaining your website – NetObjects Fusion

  2. Introduction All members of the club can have a website setup free of charge which links from the club site. The idea is to give all members an online gallery. This document provides an introduction into how to maintain your site add pictures to the gallery and generally use the site for your own purposes. The software used to maintain the website is called NetObjects Fusion Essentials read on for more details.

  3. Obtaining NetObjects Fusion Essentials. • NetObjects provide the software Fusion which can be used to develop web sites. • The also provide a limited functional version called Essentials which is what has been used to create your site and can be used to fully maintain it. • The software can be downloaded from their website the current link is http://netobjects.com/html/free-website-design-software.html • Visit the site and download the software alternatively email John and ask for a copy.

  4. Installing NetObjects Fusion • Once you have obtained a copy of the software install it on your PC by double clicking the supplied program. • Work your way through the install program simply clicking the continue/next button on all screens.

  5. Web site template. • Contact the club and request a copy of your website template. • Save the template into a known location on your PC (not the desktop) My Documents is a good idea. • Please, please please ensure that you take backups of the template as your change your website. A simple way to do this is to email it to the club at • backup@askerncameraclub.co.uk

  6. Web Host Details • Along with your template you will be given your webhost details which consists of the following details • Web/FTP site name e.g. johnsmith.zxq.net • User Name e.g. johnsmith.zxq • Password e.g. xxxxxxxxx

  7. Configuring NetObjects • You should now launch the NetObjects application a screen similar to that shown below will be displayed

  8. Configuring NetObjects • You should now click on the file menu option and then Open. • Now navigate to the location you saved your web site template to and select it to be opened. • A screen similar to the following will now be displayed.

  10. Configuring NetObjects • Now click on the publish site icon on the right hand side of the screen this will display a window similar to that shown below.

  11. Configuring NetObjects • Click the New Profile button. • Then select remote in the displayed window. • The following screen should now be displayed.

Configuring NetObjects • Click in the Profile Name box and provide a suitable name (anything you like really but the same name as your website makes sense). • In the FTP host box input the Web/FTP site name • And then your user name and passwords in the relative boxes and then click Save as global profile button • You should now be returned to the publish site window check the profile you have just created is selected • Click the publish button

  13. Configuring NetObjects • A publishing site window will be displayed followed by a transferring file. • Ultimately the following window should be displayed.

Configuring NetObjects • If you received the file transfer is complete message you have successfully configured NetObjects and are ready to start and maintain your website. • If not confirm you have correctly input the website and user id and passwords. • If you are still having problems contact John at the club.

Adding pictures to the gallery • By default everyone's web page has a gallery for you to share images on the web the following slides explain how to add pictures to it. • Launch NetObjects and open your template • Double click the page containing your Photo Gallery this is immediately below your home page • A screen similar to the folllowing

  17. Adding Pictures to the Gallery cont • Right click on the background of the gallery and select object properties. • On the displayed window select configure to display the following screen

Adding pictures to the Gallery cont • Click the add button and then browse to and select the pictures you wish to add. • When you have finished click done. • As galleries get larger there may be some delay as they add pictures please be patient. • Once all pictures have been added you should publish the new site.

  20. Publishing the site • Click on the Publish Site icon at the top of the screen. • Click the publish button and wait while the screens are generated and sent to the web server. • Any problems try and publish later and/or seek advice.

  21. What else can I do • Whatever you want. • You can add pages, • Add new galleries and generally do whatever you want with a web page, use the help built in to NetObjects or search the web for details.
