  2. Primary Attributes (Traits) of Collaboration • 1. An understanding that a diverse team, in person or remote, benefits everyone. Willing to use technology to assist in team tasks. • 2. A respect for people’s differences while at the same time finding what they have in common that allows the team to work together. • 3. Sharing leadership by gathering ideas and using the skills of all team members. Offering help and encouraging everyone to share responsibilities. • 4. Finding positive ways to deal with conflict amongst team members and seeing failure as a way to learn.

  3. Leadership – Your Experience • What makes someone a leader? • Who do you personally admire as a leader? • What are the qualities and behaviors that you think make this person a good leader?

  4. Leadership – Does it Matter? Effective leaders have a considerable impact on: • The performance outcomes of individuals, teams, and organizations • Job satisfaction and motivation • Reducing the stress levels of individuals who are part of a team • Organizational productivity and profitability

  5. Leadership – Evolution 1930s – 1950s – Heroic Model of Leadership 1960s – Outcome Based Model of Leadership 1970s – Situational Model of Leadership 1980s - Emergence of Transformational Leadership

  6. Leadership Styles Even though leaders may adapt their approach to the situation, they can still be considered either: Transactional or Transformational

  7. Leadership – Transactional Transactional Leadership- Used to maintain the normal flow of operations, relies on a mix of disciplinary power and incentives to motivate workers.

  8. Leadership – Transformational Transformational Leadership- Focuses on team building and collaboration. Desire to achieve goals by promoting the strongest skills/traits in each member of the team.
