  1. WillyourHousebeBurgled? GettingburgledisacommonfearformanyintheUK,notjustforthetheftofyour propertybutthepossibilityofyouoryourfamilybeinghurtintheprocess.While burglariesintheUKaren’tascommonorasviolentasourfriendshavetodealwith overthepond,they’restillterrifyinganddistressingincidents. Somethinktheirhousewouldneverbeattackedbyburglars:theirvaluablesaren’t worthmuchortooheavytocarryoff,theirdoorandwindowlocksaresecureand (usually)locked,theirneighboursarealwayshomeandcanseeaburglaryinprogress, orthey’llsimplyroughupanywannabeeburglarsshouldtheyencounterthemintheir house.Buttheaverageburglarisn’tascomicallyineptorunpreparedastheironscreen counterparts:theyknowthattakingriskswhenraidingahouselikesmashinga windowordooropenwillattractattention,norisnight-timetheusualtimefor burglary. It’sfarmorecommonforburglarstowatchtheirtargetforweeks,evenmonthsbefore attemptinganything.Inparticular,theylookforawork/schoolroutineorvacation time,whenthehouseisunoccupied.Thiscouldmeanaburglaryinbroaddaylight, disturbinglycommonnowadays.They’llalsobelookingforwindowsanddoorsyou habituallyleaveunlocked,ascominginquietlyismuchstealthierthansmashingyour wayin.Oldlocksarealsoatarget,assomeofthemcanbelockpickedwithease. Whentheopportunitycomes,don’texpecttheburglarytolastmorethan10minutes, orforanyonetonotice:ifthey’reanygoodattheirtradethey’llhavecheckedallthe usualhidingplacesforvaluableslikejewelleryquicklyandquietly.Atdaytime, enteringthroughthefrontdoorispreferredforobviousreasons:itdoesn’tlooklike breakingin. Thecommonburglarhastobegoodathisjobtostayinit,andtoooftenhomeowners underestimatetheirskillswhileoverestimatingtheirhomesecurity.Besidesreplacing youroldlocks,purchasingasecuritysystems(oradecoy)isrecommendedasburglars avoidhouseswithanobviousburglardetectorinview.MJSLocksmithofferservices forresidentialandcommercialbuildingsinDarlington,MiddlesbroughandCountry Durham:homeownerswithabrokenfrontdoorlock,businesseswithmalfunctioning
