Kostas FacilityGetting Access • Micro nano fab facility for all NEU communitry. • Call 10,1000,10,000 clean room and equipment • 24/7 Access grated to all full time individuals WORKING for NEU • Grad student • Post docs • Undergraduates • NOT REU’s or undergraduates or industrial users!!!! • All internal students/post docs, graduate students, undergraduates must sign NEU-waiver • EHS web site • http://www.ehs.neu.edu/ • Permission to access NEU labs • If under 18 need parents signature

Kostas CenterIn Lab Restrictions • Undergraduates ,REU’s, Industrial visitors • Cannot work in the center on the weekends • Cannot work after 5:30 pm in the lab • Clothing • No sandals ,flip flops high-heels, open toes shoes • No shorts • A beard requires special clean room mask! • No tank tops • Allowed to bring change of cloths for change out • Music • No ear plugs allowed in clean rooms • If using computer for music be attentive other peoples volume tolerance

Access Info • Access is granted • EHS permission on web site: http://www.ehs.neu.edu/) • Registration on Kosytas web stiesweb site • Safety test online (http://www.ehs.neu.edu/) • Access swipe card is given-NEU card holder will be coded at facilities for access. • Safety run orientation in the lab (Scott) • Growing, • emergency procedures • Access is available 24/7 using the buddy system • For NEU post docs, grad students, professors only!!!! • Web cams monitor the lab 24/7

  8. Emergencies • During Normal Business Hours • Fire • Exit and press fire alarm call Scott or me • Chemical Spill, • Call Scott or me or NEU EHS • Flood, injury • Call Scott or me and or call xt 3333 • After Hours • Call xt 3333 and report problem then call Scott or me

Training • Training is requested through the web site • Emails are set to Scott, Rich and Dave and we inform you where and when • http://www.kostas.neu.edu/ • Each piece of equipment has manuals and or videos and SOP associated with it. • Read before hands on instructions • If you have not used a piece of equipment in several months • GET RETRAINED!!!!

Access/Charges • Swipe card system • Id card is swiped on entrance and exit • Hours are used to charge clean room access • Reservation system • You must reserve equipment before uses • This is how we charge for equipment use and schedule maintenance. • You can reserve up to 48-8 hour in advance( SEM is 1 week) • You cannot cancel less than 4 hours before • Charge rates are on the web site for NEU and industrial users • NEU: $18.00/hr fate rate plus a-la-carte equipment fees • Cap super user fee $3K /quarter • Industrial: see web site

Supplies/Suppliers • What we supply • DI water, Gowns, gloves, most chemicals acids and solvents, wipes, sputter targets, beakers, most e-beam evaporants… • Au is available at a surcharge (ebeam) • C crucibles are free all other are surcharged • 18$ surcharge for Au sputtering ($19 K/target) • Where to order stuff • On line at Kostas site

  12. Chemicals • MSDS are available • At the center in yellow binders • Online at :http://www.hazard.com/msds/index.php • NO CHEMICALS /OREQUIPMENT CAN BE BROUGHT INTO THE CENTER WITHOUT CONSENT FROM STAFF! • For outside users • best to have us order and back charge • or drop ship to center

Your Responsibility as a User • Communal Lab • Look out for each other • Schedule the tools! • Housekeeping • Clean up your mess • Ensure other do as well • Procedure • If someone looks like they don’t now what they are doing or violating lab and safety policy let them and staff know ASAP!!!! • If you have not used a piece of equipment in some time get re-trained • Supplies • If the gloves or wipes are low replenish them • If the clean matt is dirty then” tare” off a new one • If the PR or chemicals are low let us know ASAP • If the LN2 tank is low then go change it.
