  1. MAEviz: Seismic Risk Assessment System October 31, 2008

  2. Overview • Scenario – Emergency manager needs to determine short term shelter needs and longer term temporary housing after Magnitude 7.9 Earthquake in Shelby County Tennessee. • Load Housing data and Freeways from Remote or Local Repositories • Start from Dislocation Analysis and work backwards to create required inputs • Damage Analysis with hazard uncertainty option • Style View • Result table with result columns highlighted • Start from Dislocation analysis and work forward to Short Term Shelter Needs • Highlight areas of large dislocation results • Generate Shelter Supply requirements and display in report • Run Temporary housing and report on housing assignments for displaced families

  3. Create Scenario Map View 2D or 3D maps Scenario Data Maps, Tables, Fragility curves, etc. Data Repositories Local File System, WebDAV, PostGIS DB

  4. Load Data: Shelby county freeways Loading Dataset Scenario view shows the dataset loaded Categorized Dataset Dataset are categorized in the repositories

  5. Load Data: Building dataset (RES3) Predefined Style The styles are predefined for each dataset type

  6. Execute Dislocation Analysis Analysis User can choose an analysis among 50 analyses categorized

  7. Execute Dislocation Analysis Back Chaining User can create another analysis which the analysis depends on

  8. Execute Dislocation Analysis Back Chaining New work flow is added

  9. Execute Dislocation Analysis View Maximized Each view can be maximized Back Chaining New work flows are added

  10. Dislocation Analysis Results Layer Style User can customize the representation of the layer Map Legend Value classification is shown as map legend

  11. Dislocation Analysis Results Tooltips Tooltip shows the description of column and detailed value Table View Results are displayed as table view Highlighted Column The columns contained results are highlighted

  12. Short Term Shelter Needs & Supplies What’s next? What can the results of dislocation feed into?

  13. Short Term Shelter Needs & Supplies What’s next? MAEviz shows users possible next analysis

  14. Short Term Shelter Needs & Supplies What’s next? Short Term Shelter Needs Analysis is added

  15. Short Term Shelter Needs & Supplies Linking Views Selecting a row in the table highlights the corresponding bridge on the map

  16. Short Term Shelter Needs & Supplies Report MAEviz generates the report for shelter needs and supplies (in PDF format) Supplies for 1, 3, and 7 Day Planning

  17. Overview • Decision makers of Shelby County need to exercise $1,500,000 budget to retrofit highway bridges for preparing an earthquake (magnitude 7.9). They have six retrofit methods to be implemented and want to minimize the societal cost (which is measured via total system travel time (TSTT)). As a result, they need to know which bridge needs to be retrofitted with which method while minimizing TSTT under budget constraint.

  18. Network-Based Seismic Retrofit (NBSR) AnalysisSetting up the analysis Input Parameter Form User interface for users to enter input parameters; the default values are provided NBSR Analysis Work Flow It shows the dependencies and input parameters

  19. Network-Based Seismic Retrofit (NBSR) AnalysisResults: Bridges selected for retrofitting Customized Layout Users can customized the location and size of each view for their convenience Linking Views Selecting a row in the table highlights the corresponding bridge on the map

  20. Network-Based Seismic Retrofit (NBSR) AnalysisResults: Link Flow 2D & 3D Map View 3D maps shows different thickness of tube by link flow Map Legend Map Legend shows the color classification by link flow in 2D map Linking Views Selecting a row in the table highlights the corresponding link on the map Table View Current table is sorted by link flow (result columns are highlighted)

  21. Network-Based Seismic Retrofit (NBSR) AnalysisResults: Total System Travel Time Chart View Various charts are provided to visualize the results. Users can zoom into detailed ranges of data. Tooltips When users move the cursor over the bar, it displays detailed information.
