  1. Great Choices out there when you need certain Fabrics Fabrics are found in virtually everything around us, right from the clothes we wear, to the curtains in our homes, the upholstery in our cars – in different applications that we hardly think of. If not for fabric, and the choices being offered, we would have fewer options to cover and clothe ourselves and to enjoy comfortable homes and interiors such as the restaurants we visit, the hotels where we sleepover, or relaxing in a luxurious seat in our favorite car. Of course, there are so many types to choose from; not all are always suitable for the same purposes, but that matters little. Different types of fabric will always appeal because of their use, the type they represent and how people feel about them. Let’s look, for example, at satin fabric, printed satin fabric for that matter. This type of fabric, like so many others such as cotton and silk, or chiffon, for instance, will always enjoy its following, and it will be acquired by those that are looking for a fabric which appeals to their sense of beauty, and their preferences when they touch it. It is recognized as a fabric weaved to allow a smooth, glossy face, as opposed to, say, cotton. It is not to be confused with silk, which sometimes happens. A big difference is in their composition: silk comes from the silkworm – satin is a type of weave, and not a raw, basic material. That means that satin can be made from silk. Satin can be made from not only natural, but also from synthetic fibers, which means that quality may vary, but all types are normally popular with certain buyers. There are some characteristics present in satin that will always make it easy to recognize the fabric. Examples include: the fabric typically has one side that appears glossy and the other one not; it is a smooth fabric that easily falls into drapes around the body when worn; it is flexible and can, therefore, be formed into configurations around bodies and curves for the best dramatic effect; people like the fabric because it feels luxurious – think of satin sheets, for example. These are some characteristics that make the fabric stand out and add to its popularity; there are more.

  2. Depending on one’s specific choices there are different types of satin, such as the antique variety which is a heavy fabric. It is also called satin back shantung. Other well-known varieties include the charmeuse satin, the type often used for clothing such as wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and also double-faced satin which is often used for gowns and lingerie. Stretch satin, again, has been popularized with form-fitting clothing such as seen in lycra and spandex garments, for example. It is clear that satin has many uses in terms of clothing, and a certain preference over other fabrics will always be part of some individuals’ choices. Of course, it can be used for other purposes too, such as in ornate settings where lovely drapes and curtains form part of luxurious decor. And very often printed satin is used for impact, to make a certain impression. Printed satin, much like other printed fabrics will always enjoy their following – also because there are so many choices, options, and possibilities to use these. Printed fabrics – also satins, but not exclusively so – will always be popular everywhere: in curtains, upholstery, tablecloths, drapes, throws on the bed, and often as a fabric for clothes. Printed designs, whether it is satin, silk or others, are popular on dresses, skirts, evening gowns, daywear, inners, neckties, and hats. The list goes on. When it comes to caring, it is mentioned that dry-cleaning is often the best method, although synthetic satins can be hand washed. Iron them using low heat, do not wring your satins but let them dry on a hanger – protected from direct sunlight. There are many lovely satins out there – with a keen following all over the world. But, many other fabrics have their allure, their reasons for being more popular than others. It remains a choice as to what fabric you prefer.
