  2. 2010-2011District Highlights Board candidates unopposed; election for Board of Trustees cancelled At the March 28 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an Order of Cancellation for the May 14, 2011, General Election of Trustees, and declared the candidates JessieG. Rodríguez, Place 5; Leon Leal, Place 6; and JorgeRodríguez, Place 7; certified as unopposed and hereby elected. The names will still appear on the May 14 election ballot, as will the proposed2011 Bond Program. Early voting is May 2-10.

  3. 2010-2011District Highlights Education Foundation Golf Tournament April 18 The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation’s 10th annual Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, April 18, at Timarron Country Club. This year’s event includes an appreciation dinner and auction the evening before the tournament, April 17, at Piazza in the Village, Colleyville, at 5 p.m. For team, individual player registration, sponsor information or auction donations, please call the Foundation at 817/251-5480.

  4. 2010-2011District Highlights Cannon educator named regional ESL Lara Custis, 5th grade teacher at Cannon Elementary, was selected as the 2011 Regional Elementary ESLTeacher of the Year by the Bilingual/ESL Education Association of the Metroplex. She will be honored at the 2011 BEAM Conference on April 9 in Arlington and will advance to the state level competition for ESL Teacher of the Year. Lara was selected by her peers as this year’s Teacher of the Year for Cannon Elementary.

  5. 2010-2011District Highlights GHS student earns top rank in debate honor society Landry Ayres, Grapevine High School senior, has earned the National Forensic League’s degree of PremierDistinction, the highest student degree in the honor society. A degree of Premier Distinction reflects sustained excellence in classroom activities, competition rounds and service projects. Students may earn points is six separate categories: speech, debate, congress, service, district and national. Ayers is one of only 400 students to receive this degree this year from the NFL, which has 112,000 student members.

  6. 2010-2011District Highlights Student art show winner recognized Glenhope Elementary third-grade student Gabriel Pelle was recognized as the 2011 GCISD Art Show winner for his painted piece titled, “Black Glue Parrot.” Each year, students across the District submit an original piece of artwork to be displayed in the annual District Art Show. District leaders select one piece for purchase from a selection pool that rotates among elementary, middle and high school each year.

  7. 2010-2011District Highlights CMS DI Team heading to Global Finals The 8th grade Destination Imagination team from Colleyville Middle School was rated “Outstanding” in the State Destination Imagination tournament in Lubbock, and now advances to the Global Finals in Knoxville in May. The team was one of only two teams to receive the rating in the competition against 21 teams.

  8. 2010-2011District Highlights Math and Science Infinity Program to launch with support from Chesapeake Energy match grant Middle school students throughout Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will learn the fundamentals behind electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental and biomedical engineering beginning this fall as part of the district’s new Math and Science Infinity Program, thanks to a match grant from Chesapeake Energy Corporation. The new program includes 13 three-week modules taught throughout the year, highlighting math and science curriculum involved in engineering.

  9. 2010-2011District Highlights Summer program offerings online • Online registration is now available for GCISD summer programs. Program offerings include: • Summer Enrichment, Making Strides to a Brighter Future, for grades kindergarten-eighth • ElementaryAcademy • KidzU Child Care and Summer Camp • SecondarySummer School • www.gcisd-k12.org
