  2. 2010 Highlights • Developed short and long term Diversity Action Plan with Steering Committee • Hosted annual Attorneys of Color Retreat • Coordinated response to AOC letter: MLAC Retention Task Force was formed • Provided support to PD’s re: Retention of staff of color • 2nd annual diversity workshop for MLP

  3. Diversity Coalition Short Term Goals • Revisit DC mission statement • Design survey to determine diversity climate at MLS • Host Stress Management Retreat for intake and hotline workers • Host Diversity Conference for legal services • Expand Steering Committee membership

Revisit Coalition Mission StatementGoal 1 • Old MISSION STATEMENT – June 2002 To create a representative and collaborative atmosphere within legal services and to provide accessible, welcoming and culturally competent services to clients of all backgrounds and their communities • New MISSION STATEMENT – September 2010 To create a diverse, representative and collaborative environmentwithin legal services in order to provide accessible, welcoming and culturally competent services to clients of all backgrounds and their communities.

  5. Survey to determine:Diversity Climate and Training NeedsGOAL 2 • Received 213 responses • How many Years: • 75% of respondents/more than 18 years • Demographics • 71% Caucasian/White • 11.3% Latina • 7.1 % African Heritage

  9. How committed is: Your Program to Diversity 2010 Survey responses: • 80% of Whites said yes • 47% of POC agreed 2000 Survey responses: • 71.9% of Whites said programs were committed • 48.5% of POC agreed

  10. Hotline Program Staff RetreatGoal 3 • Collaborated with CLAE to facilitate retreat • Motivational humorist: boost morale, reduce burnout, and create a happy healthy workplace • CLAE: customer service workshop • Presented 30 Certificates of Appreciation

  11. Diversity Conference for MLSGoal 4 This goal is still being developed; to be accomplished by Spring, 2011

  12. Expand DCSC Committee membershipGOAL 5 • Four new members responded to our invitation to join the Steering Committee • One has since been laid off due to funding • One has already attended his first meeting • The other two, including Rich McMahon, will join the committee in 2011

  13. Annual Attorneys of Color Retreat • Brent Henry • Vice President and General Counsel of Partners HealthCare was keynote speaker • Retention Task Force • AOCs brainstormed suggestions for the task force. Shared with PD’s

  14. MLAC Retention Task Force • First meeting November 29th • Chaired by Jacquie Bowman • 18 members representing • 3 Boards • 3 Attorneys of Color • 4 Union reps • 5 PD’s • 2 MLAC/Diversity Coalition Next meeting January 31st

  16. Medical Legal Partnership • 2nd annual Diversity Workshop • Feed back very positive • MLP would like to book 2011

  17. Preview 2011 • Complete Short Term Goal 5: • Diversity Conference • Provide Retention Task Force support, until it wraps up • Assume AAO responsibilities for MLAC • Work on Diversity Coalition Long Term Goals • Recruitment, hiring and retention • Diversifying leadership composition
