  2. Smart Ambitious People Location Second Floor Science Wing

  3. Who Gets to Say & Do What? The students who have the most insight and knowledge about the subject being discussed.

  4. Where Do They Get to Say and Do It? They get to say and do this during the time that they are surrounded by others who share the same interests.

  5. Which Spaces Are ‘Owned’ By Which Kids And Why? Where ever the “smartest” student sits (usually in a science class rooms) is where they will begin to gather. The “not so smart” students who gather in these rooms are congregated at a safe distance away. Safe meaning that when they don’t understand everything they can ask questions without feeling inadequate. The students who are bent over in seats, concentrating on their work, are usually left to their OWN space.

  6. Which Kids Are Invisible To Others And Why The people who are invisible to others are the kids who don’t show a lot of effort in class and are only there to “catch up”. These student are usually the Class Clowns and Goof Offs.

  7. What Is Considered Acceptable & Unacceptable Derogatory Language. What is “Just Teasing” The most unacceptable language to use here would be the expression of ‘real’ hate for others because of there orientation. Just teasing usually consists of anything highly intelligent but in a form of a joke that only they can laugh at.

  8. The Spoken & Unspoken Cultures The different cultures are very similar to the spaces that are owned by certain students. Basically they congregate according to which subject they are studying. Math Biology Chemistry Physics

  9. How Does This Place Work And For Who? This place works for all students wishing to receive extra help or escape from everyday drama. Being that there is usually a teacher around this area works like a classroom would during any regular classes. The students who are “usually” in these classrooms have the most say, although in classes like this the only thing really being discussed is work being done for school or as an extra curriculum. The teachers here actually get to talk with their students more because when the kids are here are here to expand their mind so they can actually have in depth discussions with them.

  10. Who Isn’t & Who Is At Home Here Students who have a very good insight on science and math would find this place very welcoming, while student who slack off or aren't as intelligent in these subject areas would not find it comfortable.

  11. How Are People Effected By The Patterns, Norms, & Culture Of This Space People who gather here tend to be pretty open minded. So any one could walk in and they wouldn’t have a real problem with it…unless you where to start bashing their studies and what they where doing. They would however (unbeknown to them) have an effect on the people who studied so hard but just couldn’t get the grades that they (Smart Ambitious People) where receiving.

  13. Who Gets To Say & Do What Anyone can say whatever they want to just about anyone else, and people actually do. the people are not the type of people to start fights over words.

  14. Where Do They Get To Say & Do It Anyone can say whatever they want, to whoever the please, in the gym. There is nothing that can’t be said. Sometimes the teachers sit and supervise the activities, and they have to tell people to stop.

  15. Which Spaces Are ‘Owned’ By Which Kids & Why There is no particular places that people “own”, the gym is a place where everyone can go wherever they want without being bothered.

  16. Which Kids Are Invisible To Others And Why The kids that just hang out by themselves and don’t really partake in any of the little games going on are generally “invisible” to all the others.

  17. What Is Considered Acceptable & Unacceptable Derogatory Language. What is “Just Teasing” Amongst the people playing in the gym, anything is acceptable language, around the teachers which supervise cursing and swearing is frowned upon as well as picking on other people because of their skills or lack of skills. Just teasing happens between some of the more athletic people who know their friends are just joking around.

  18. The Spoken & Unspoken Cultures The different cultures in the gymnasium consist of the different sports, sometimes there is only basketball but when there are different things available to play the different cultures show very clearly.

  19. How Does This Place Work And For Who? This place works for anyone who wants a place to enjoy basketball or other sports without being bothered by anyone. Anyone can go in and play without worrying about being discriminated against.

  20. Who Isn’t & Who Is At Home Here It appears that everyone there feels at home, because nobody is forced into any particular spot, and there is lots of space for everyone to spread out if need be.

  21. How Are People Effected By The Patterns, Norms, & Culture Of This Space A lot of people hang out here because it is such an easy place to fit in. All one has to do is walk in and grab a ball or join a game. There is no real pattern when you walk in there are different people in the gym each day, proving that there is no real “norm”.

  22. Stage People Location: Cafeteria Stage

  23. Who Gets To Say & Do What The stage is where people (mainly grade 12’s) hang out. The people who get to say what they want are normally the people who have been here the longest, and who are “popular”. Recently there has been a little bit of change in the people who use the stage as a place to hang out. The music people have been hanging out on the stage at lunchtime lately.

  24. Where Do They Get To Say & Do It They get to say what they want to the people on the stage, around the stage and in a lot of other places in the school. These are the people who think highly of themselves for being in grade 12, and for being “popular”.

  25. Which Spaces Are ‘Owned’ By Which Kids & Why There have been students who have sat on the stage since the beginning of the year. These are the students who have precedence over the area.

  26. Which Kids Are Invisible To Others And Why In all cultures there is a pecking order, well on the stage it is very simple to pick it out. The students who have been sitting on the stage the longest (since grade 12) are at the top. We will call them Group A.

  27. There are then the students who have gradually migrated to this area. These students usually have something in common with Group A, but also have a lot of activities outside of school that doesn’t involve Group A. We will call them Group B.

  28. Then there is Group C, new commers. They have found friendships over the years with people (usually from Group B) that sit on the stage. Mostly, if you are in (the few) Group A, you can associate with Group B, Group B is able to associate with both A & B. While Group C mostly socializes with Group B. It isn’t too much of an overstatement to say that Group C is invisible to Group A. But it is as equally fair to say that just about everyone else in the cafeteria is invisible to A,B and C.

  29. What Is Considered Acceptable & Unacceptable Derogatory Language. What is “Just Teasing” Any language is acceptable on the stage. Teasing takes place all the time between friends. The teasing can sometimes be very bad. All the people here seem to understand that it is just teasing though.

  30. The Spoken & Unspoken Cultures The ‘spoken’ cultures would be the stage group. The unspoken cultures are those of musical and...not musical people.

  31. How Does This Place Work And For Who? This place works for everyone who gets along with those who sit on the stage. The way it works would be… who ever get there first, wont get moved.

  32. Who Isn’t & Who Is At Home Here People able to laugh and get along with each other are at home here. The people who are not, are those with different social backgrounds.

  33. How Are People Effected By The Patterns, Norms, & Culture Of This Space People don’t usually disrupt the area, because certain students usually sit here, no one else does. The people of the stage keep to themselves (that group) and don’t go looking for trouble.
